Raleigh-Cary, NC MSA Job Market Expected to be Strongest in Nation

September 7, 2010 – Raleigh-Cary, NC MSA employers expect to hire at a solid pace during Quarter 4 2010, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.  Among survey participants, the Raleigh-Cary, NC MSA employment outlook is the best in the nation.

From October to December, 21% of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 6% expect to reduce their payrolls. Another 71% expect to maintain their current staff levels and 2% are not certain of their hiring plans. This yields a Net Employment Outlook* of 15%.

“Employers are similarly optimistic about hiring plans for the final three months of the year compared to Quarter 3 2010 when the Net Employment Outlook was 14%,” said Manpower spokesperson Michael Doyle. “Employers expect a significantly faster hiring pace compared with one year ago, when the Net Employment Outlook was -6%.

*The Net Employment Outlook is derived by taking the percentage of employers anticipating an increase in hiring activity and subtracting from this the percentage of employers expecting a decrease in hiring activity.

For the coming quarter, job prospects appear best in Durable Goods Manufacturing, Transportation & Utilities, Wholesale & Retail Trade, Information, Financial Activities, Professional & Business Services, Education & Health Services, Leisure & Hospitality and Other Services. Employers in Construction, Nondurable Goods Manufacturing and Government expect no change in headcount.

Manpower Employment Outlook Survey Results for the United States
Of the more than 18,000 employers surveyed in the United States, 15% anticipate an increase in staff levels in their Quarter 4 2010 hiring plans, while 11% expect a decrease in payrolls, resulting in a Net Employment Outlook of +4%. When seasonally adjusted, the Net Employment Outlook becomes +5%. Seventy-one percent of employers expect no change in their hiring plans. The final 3% of employers indicate they are undecided about their hiring intentions.

The next Manpower Employment Outlook Survey will be released on December 7, 2010 to report hiring expectations for Quarter 1 2011.
